Divorce / Dissolution of Marriage can be and usually is a very stressful process. We strive to alleviate as much of that stress as we can, as well as, keeping our clients informed about what is going on in their case.

Below is a very brief description of the legal process of divorce / dissoltion of marriages.

Divorces can be broken down into two major groups:

• Divorces without children.
• Divorces with children.

All divorces involve three essential steps: finding the parties divorced and whether there is spousal support; determining property division; and, determing debt division.

If the parties have minor children, the divorce will require the additional determination of the following: custody of the minor children; visitation; and child support.

Paternity actions are where two people were involved in a relationship, no matter how brief or long, were not legally married and of that relationship they together had a minor child.

Even if a person has signed a paternity affidavit at the hospital, it does not necessarily give or assign any legal rights or privileges to the parent(s). 

A paternity action involves the determination of the biological father, a determination of custody rights, a determination of visitation rights, and determination of child support.
